Frequently Asked Questions

Get clear answers about data flow, formatting, integrity, and usage limits.

How many PDF files can I merge at once?
Desktop sessions support up to 20 files and a 150MB combined input size. Mobile sessions support up to 10 files and a 50MB combined total. Available browser memory may impose a lower practical limit.
Are my files uploaded to your servers when merging?
No. Selected PDF content is read and merged in browser workers and is not uploaded to BytesPDF servers. Device, browser, extensions, downloaded output, and the eventual recipient still matter.
Can I reorder pages within a PDF, or only whole files?
BytesPDF currently merges whole source PDFs in the order you arrange them and can rotate a source during merge. It does not provide page-level extraction or reordering within one source PDF.
Do you preserve bookmarks and metadata during merge?
The merger copies visible pages into a new PDF. Document-level bookmarks, forms, annotations, attachments, and source metadata may not carry across. Digitally signed inputs are rejected because merging would invalidate their signatures. Keep the originals and inspect the output.
Is there a limit on PDF file size for merging?
The combined desktop limit is 150MB. On mobile it is 50MB, with no more than 10 files. Large or complex PDFs can still exceed the memory available to a browser.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
No. Unlock the PDF in its original application and save an unencrypted copy before merging. BytesPDF does not ask for or process PDF passwords.
Which browsers support BytesPDF merging?
Use a current browser with the required Web Worker and modern JavaScript support. Browser and device capabilities vary, and large or complex files can exceed available memory even below the published cap.
How does BytesPDF merge compare to Adobe Acrobat?
BytesPDF provides focused whole-file merging without requiring an account or PDF upload to BytesPDF. Acrobat has distinct online and desktop products with broader professional workflows; see the sourced comparison for the current distinction.
