How to Compare Two PDF Files in 3 Easy Steps

Browser-local document processing with no application installation required.

1

Drop Both Versions

The earlier version first, the newer one second — labels keep the diff direction obvious.

2

Compare

Text is extracted page by page and diffed locally in seconds.

3

Review the Changes

Jump through changed pages, read added and removed lines, verify nothing sneaked in.

Why Use Our Compare Two PDF Files Tool?

Current capabilities and limitations, described without universal quality or speed promises.

🔍

Line-Level Diff

Every added and removed line between two versions, with the changed pages listed first.

📄

Page-Count Delta

A silent extra (or missing) page is the classic contract mistake — the page delta is called out explicitly.

🤝

Contract-Safe

Comparing draft vs final often means confidential documents. Both files are read in this browser tab; nothing is uploaded.

🪞

Text-Layer Honesty

The comparison works on extractable text. Scanned pages without a text layer are outside its view — stated plainly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get clear answers about data flow, formatting, integrity, and usage limits.

How can I compare two PDF files to see what changed?
Add both files here — the tool extracts each page's text locally and produces a line-level diff: lines added, lines removed, which physical pages changed, and whether the page count moved. Both documents stay in your browser the whole time.
Can it compare a scanned contract with a new version?
Only when both files have a text layer. Scanned pages are images — their text isn't extractable without OCR, so the comparison covers the pages that do carry text. The report is explicit about what it compared.
Does it compare formatting, images or stamps?
No. This is a text comparison: wording changes, added or removed paragraphs, and page-count shifts. Visual-only changes (a new logo, moved margins) are not diffed. For visual review, open both files side by side.
Is it safe for confidential contracts?
That is the point of running it locally. Upload-based diff services receive your contract on their servers; here the files are parsed in this browser tab and never leave the device — verifiable in the Network tab.
Is there a page limit?
The first 200 pages of each file are compared, which covers the overwhelming majority of contracts, statements and reports.
