How to Remove PDF Metadata Online in 3 Easy Steps

Browser-local document processing with no application installation required.

1

Drop Your PDFs

Metadata is inspected immediately and locally — you see what each file reveals about its history.

2

Review the Findings

Decide per file. Files with nothing to remove are labelled clean; signed files are flagged, not modified.

3

Download Clean Copies

Cleaned copies keep every page byte of content while metadata structures are rewritten out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get clear answers about data flow, formatting, integrity, and usage limits.

What metadata does a PDF contain?
Common Document Info fields include the Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, the application that created the file, the producer software, and creation/modification timestamps. Many PDFs also carry an XMP metadata packet, and files saved incrementally can retain traces of earlier editing sessions.
How do I remove author name and other metadata from a PDF?
Add the file here — its fields are listed immediately — then download a cleaned copy. The Info fields and the XMP packet are deleted and the result is a freshly written file. Everything happens in your browser; the document is not uploaded.
Does removing metadata change how the PDF looks?
No. Page content is untouched — only metadata structures are removed. The visible document is identical; some files even become slightly smaller.
What metadata removal cannot fix?
It cannot remove information that is part of the page itself — a name typed into the document, your username visible in a screenshot, or handwriting captured in a scan. It also cannot undo what a recipient has already seen. Treat it as one step in document hygiene, not invisibility.
Is removing metadata enough before sharing a sensitive document?
It is a meaningful step, not a complete one. Also check the visible content, verify redactions actually remove text (try selecting it), and remember the recipient's copy is theirs. For signed documents, metadata removal is refused — the signature covers the file as it is.
Can I clean many PDFs at once?
Yes — add up to 20 files, and download cleaned copies individually or as a single ZIP built locally.
