Why this page exists: privacy by architecture, not policy

Bank statements contain identifiers, balances, and transaction history. Browser-local processing avoids sending the statement to BytesPDF, but device security, local downloads, and the lender or broker portal still matter.

Lender and broker upload rules vary by provider, account, and workflow. A statement can be large when it contains full-page scans, images, or a long transaction history. The visible document contains sensitive identifiers and financial history. BytesPDF clears common descriptive and XMP metadata, but it does not sanitize the statement or every embedded value. Compress a copy locally, inspect it, and submit only through the approved recipient channel.

Bank Statement Submission Checks

Use these checkpoints with the destination's current instructions. Requirements can vary by account, institution, region, document type, and workflow. BytesPDF does not verify or guarantee recipient acceptance. Page reviewed . See the browser-local processing architecture.

Which Compression Mode Should You Pick?

Three modes — pick based on what the recipient needs to do with the file.

Recommended mode (default)

A moderate starting point for statements. Born-digital text is not deliberately rasterized, while supported scanned pages and logos can be re-encoded. Check account details and transaction rows before submitting.

🟡 Less mode — when uploading to lenders

Prefer Less when a recipient will inspect scans, small transaction rows, stamps, or fine detail. The receiving portal controls any OCR it performs.

🔴 Avoid Extreme mode here

Extreme mode can reduce digit sharpness on scanned statements. If your bank's statement was scanned at 200 DPI or lower, extreme mode may make account numbers slightly fuzzy — and OCR rejection is not worth it. Stay with Recommended.

Before compressing a high-stakes document

Compression rewrites the PDF. BytesPDF rejects files containing a cryptographic signature because any rewrite would invalidate it. Keep digitally signed files and required PDF/A archival masters unchanged. Bookmarks, links, forms, annotations, accessibility tags, and color profiles are preserved where the PDF library can retain them, but always inspect the downloaded copy before filing or submitting it.

PDF Compression Core

Recompress supported PDF images locally with an adjustable quality and size trade-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scenario-specific answers. For general PDF help, see our FAQ.

Does BytesPDF ever see or store my bank statement?
Selected statement content is processed in browser workers and is not uploaded to BytesPDF servers. Working blobs remain in tab memory rather than persistent document storage. Closing the tab releases the application references; downloaded copies remain wherever you save them.
Will OCR KYC portals still read my account number and sort code after compression?
Born-digital statement text remains vector text, but some bank statements are full-page scans. Recommended mode usually retains readable detail, yet OCR behavior belongs to the receiving portal. Zoom in and compare account numbers and sort codes before submission.
Can I compress multiple bank statements into one combined file?
Yes — use the BytesPDF Merge tool first to combine statements from different months or banks, then compress the combined PDF. We recommend keeping statements from different banks as separate merged files (do not merge Lloyds + Barclays into one PDF) so each statement remains cleanly attributable for audit purposes.
My bank statement PDF has metadata with my name and address — does compression remove it?
BytesPDF clears standard descriptive PDF and XMP metadata such as title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer. It does not claim forensic removal of every possible embedded value, so use a dedicated sanitization workflow when a lender requires one.
What if my bank statement is password-protected or encrypted?
BytesPDF cannot process password-protected PDFs. A few banks do password-protect downloaded statements. Open the file in your bank's app or website first to remove the password (usually a 'Download as PDF' option with no password), then compress.
Will compressing a statement affect HM Revenue & Customs or visa submission acceptance?
Acceptance cannot be guaranteed. The receiving portal may check file size, format, validity, and legibility. Confirm its current instructions and inspect the output before submission.
Does my bank statement show balances and transaction dates clearly after compression?
Born-digital text is not rasterized, but scanned statements are images and can soften. Compare balances, dates, account identifiers, and decimal points with the original at high zoom.
Is it safe to compress statements from multiple bank accounts at the same time?
The current compressor handles one selected statement at a time. Download and inspect each result before selecting the next file.
I need to keep my statement printable at A4 — will compression ruin print quality?
Print quality depends on the source scan and selected mode. Use Less mode for printing and compare a test page with the original. Avoid Extreme for documents intended for paper review.
